Abstract
The case of a woman with acute flexor tenosynovitis of the thumb caused by asymptomatic disseminated gonococcal infection is presented. The patient had a history of blunt trauma to the thumb. A possible causal relationship between trauma and subsequent hematogenously seeded infection is discussed. The need for a careful sexual, gynecologic history and pelvic examination is emphasized. Acute flexor tenosynovitis can be the only manifestation of disseminated gonococcal infection.
