Abstract

Shortening of an extremity is an established method of treatment of both limb length discrepancy in the lower limbs and ununited fractures in the lower limbs and humerus. This technique appears to result in minimal dysfunction, suggesting that the muscles involved are able to adapt to alterations in skeletal length.
