Abstract

Introduction: Individuals who participate in high running volumes are at risk of sustaining tibial stress injuries. Increased tibial acceleration during running is a potential risk factor for developing tibial stress injuries. Modified running technique and/or equipment can potentially alter tibial accelerations to reduce load and stress placed on the tibia. Numerous running interventions (e.g. changes to foot strike and cadence; wearing minimalist shoes) to modify tibial loads have been assessed, however synthesis of this evidence found inconclusive results.
