Abstract
ACUTE anuric renal failure may result when the blood supply to the kidneys is sharply reduced. This is most frequently associated with prolonged shock caused by hemorrhage or trauma. Traumatic rupture of the thoracic aorta may result in occlusion to blood flow to distal organs, and resulting anuria and paraplegia have been described. 1 In the case reported here, the sudden, simultaneous onset of anuric renal failure and pulseless lower extremities resulted from virtual occlusion of the thoracic aorta caused by tuberculous aortitis with false aneurysm formation.
