Abstract

1. Cases of acute, and subacute trypanosomiasis of African cattle caused by T. vivax are described. 2. Acute cases are characterised by the extensive haemorrhagic lesions found post-mortem and by a marked fall in blood glucose shortly before death. 3. Subacute cases may be described briefly as those in which the course is rapid but in which death is associated with severe anaemia rather than with a low blood sugar value. 4. The cases described affect our appreciation of the unique status of T. simiae infection in pigs since it is shown that analogous cases occur in cattle infected with T. vivax .
