Abstract

The hippocampus, a part of the limbic system, has been shown to regulate the function of the autonomic nervous system. As the primary clinical treatments of Traditional Chinese Medicine, acupuncture stimulation at the specific sites of body surface can dredge the meridians, regulate qi and blood, cause resuscitation and modulate autonomic functions in various organs. In this study, we tried to elucidate the effects of acupuncture on Kainic Acid (KA) induced hippocampus damage. Rats were intracerebroventricularly injected with 1μg of KA and given the acupuncture of “Baihui” (GV20), locating directly above the midpoint of the posterior hairline, 3hours after KA injection.
