Abstract

The British Medical Association (BMA) published a comprehensive report on acupuncture in June 2000 which revealed that 47% of GPs have arranged acupuncture for their patients, 46% want further training in acupuncture and 79% want to see acupuncture provided on the NHS. Acupuncture has great potential to contribute to primary care, and doctors, nurses and physiotherapists can help their patients by understanding its benefits as a complementary therapy.
