Abstract

A significant trend in Japanese overseas travel is that the female market is growing quickly. Many reports suggest that the Japanese female travel market has tremendous tourism potential, and travel and tourism organizations need to pay more attention to this group. In this study, activity segmentation was used to identify five groups of Japanese female overseas travelers. They were aeOutdoor Sports,AE aeSightseeing,AE aeLife-Seeing,AE aeActivity Combo,o and aeNaturalist,AE Cluster analysis was employed and statistical differences between groups existed for age, income, length of trip type, choice of a package vacation, and language capability. Results show that activity segmentation is a viable approach and implications may exist for travel and tourism industries.
