Abstract
The 2000 AGU Fall Meeting was the first for Biogeosciences as a full‐fledged section of AGU. Thanks to the efforts of the many members who organized and participated in sessions, this meeting was a successful event. There were 25 sessions sponsored by Biogeosciences, including over 580 abstracts, and another 17 sessions were co‐sponsored by the Section. Highlights of the meeting included a plenary session entitled “Biogeosciences: Expanding Horizons in Understanding Earth and Planetary Systems.” This was a series of overview talks covering a spectrum of topics within the biogeosciences, ranging from new modeling results on past snowball Earth events, to evidence that the magnetite in the Mars meteorite was biogenic, to magnetic sensory systems in fish, to land‐atmosphere coupling and climate change.
