Abstract

This paper presents a study of active structural acoustic control from a vibrating cylindrical shell structure. An analytical model is developed for the sound radiation and its active control. Two different control strategies are considered, i.e. the structural kinetic energy minimization and the radiated sound power minimization. Numerical simulations with the two control strategies are conducted. Results show that better control performance can be obtained under the control strategy of minimization of radiated sound power in terms of radiated sound power. Using point force as control inputs approach ASAC to control of cylindrical shell can effectively attenuate the far-field radiated sound. However, control spillover may occur at off-resonance frequency with the structural kinetic energy minimization strategy.
