Abstract

Despite repeated injections of tuberculin, a subject who is not or has never been infected with tubercle bacilli will not usually exhibit a positive response. A negative tuberculin skin reaction is, on the other hand, considered strong evidence against the diagnosis of tuberculosis (1). The purpose of this paper is to report 12 cases of patients with active pulmonary tuberculosis who had repeatedly negative tuberculin skin reactions and to emphasize the fact that a negative tuberculin skin reaction does not exclude tuberculosis from the differential diagnosis of an abnormal chest roentgenogram.
