Abstract

The gains of phase-locked-loop (PLL) and outer-loop control have significant impacts on the power transfer limits for the voltage source converter (VSC) connected to weak ac system. Therefore, in this paper, an enhanced control diagram with advanced outer-loop control is proposed. First, the P-V slope controller is proposed based on the participation factor analysis. Second, considering the overvoltage limitation, the maximum slope parameter is calculated. Third, Simulations and calculations validated the following two conclusions: 1) P-V slope control can improve the power transfer limitations of the VSC system. 2) considering the overvoltage limitation, the slope parameter of P-V control has the maximum value. With the proposed P-V slope control, the power transfer limits under both rectifier and inverter modes can be effectively extended.
