Abstract

Working media for gasdynamic lasers are considered. An experimental and theoretical study is made of N20 gasdynamic lasers (GDL) with adiabatic expansion from a slit. The kinetics of the physical processes in an N20-GDL is analyzed. The influence of the addition of hydrogen halides and of water on the relaxation processes in a C02 laser is investigated in detail. The conditions under which addition of hydrogen halides improves the laser operation are found. Chemically active media in GDL are studied, and the high effectiveness of the CS2-O2 mixture is demonstrated. The results of the investigations can be used to investigate the possibility of producing an inverted population in the atmosphere.
