Abstract

Abstract: Stensaasen, S. 1980. Active and Passive Sport Interests of Adolescents. Scandinavian Journal of Educational Research 24,41‐58. The study deals with the relationships between (a) different passive sport interests, (b) passive and active sport interests and (c) the extent to which these interests vary with sex, age, and social background. The empirical data, collected by means of a questionnaire, stem from 1009 boys and girls at the 4th, 6th, and 8th grade levels. Significant relationships were found between different passive sport interests. These were found to vary with sex, age, and social background. No basis, either theoretically or empirically, was found to draw a conclusion that active and passive sport interests should be considered as two different names of one and the same interest.
