Abstract

Activation of molecular oxygen (1 atm, room temperature) by the nitrosyl dimer [Fe(NO) 2Cl] 2 in the presence of the bidentate phosphorus ligands PP (PP = 1,2-bis(diphenylphosphino)ethane, dppe, and 1,2-bis(diphenylphosphino)ethene, dppen) yields the nitrato molecular complexes Fe(NO 3) 2Cl(OPPO), ( 2), while the ionic complexes [FeCl 4][Fe(NO 3) 2(OPPO) 2], ( 3) are obtained when [Fe(NO) 2CI] 2(μ-PP) is allowed to react with molecular oxygen. Complexes 2 and 3 transfer oxygen to phosphines. They catalyze the autoxidation of cyclohexene.
