Abstract

Abstract We synthesized a novel poly(ACMO-co-[Fe(bpy)3]) gel covalently bonded to an Fe-catalyst moiety for the Belousov–Zhabotinsky (BZ) reaction. The novel gel was composed of acryloyl morpholine (ACMO) and bis(2,2′-bipyridine)(4-vinyl-4′-methyl-2,2′-bipyridine)iron bis(hexafluorophosphate) ([Fe(bpy)3]·2PF6). The period of the BZ reaction in the poly(ACMO-co-[Fe(bpy)3]) gel decreased with increasing temperature. The activation energy of the self-oscillation of the gel was found to be 78 kJ mol−1, which is higher than that of the self-oscillating polymer system with [Ru(bpy)3] (about 60 kJ mol−1).
