Abstract

The 133 Xe was produced by irradiation of UO2 which formed the central or core portion of small disks made from a 66% Ni and 34% MgO cermet material. Diffusion rates through this material were determined in the temperature range 800° to 1100°C. The activation energy for diffusion was determined to be 4.4 e.v. with the diffusion coefficient given by the equation D= 1.85 × 107× sq. cm. per second. The mechanism of diffusion appeared to be of the atom‐vacancy interchange type.
