Abstract

this study adopted MBR (membrane biological reactor) to replace the second sediment in pulp-making wastewater treatment to find out the removal rate of COD, and explored the microbe character variation of activated sludge in MBR compared with that in the second sediment. The results showed that the activated sludge of 8g/l concentration in MBR had distinct differences in appearance under electron microscope, SMP, EPS, grain size distribution and SOUR(specific oxygen uptake rate) with the activated sludge in the second sediment; meanwhile more than 45% COD was removed, and membrane fouling could be controlled though chemical cleaning with an active sludge concentration lower than 8g/l. MBR can be used in deeply treating pulp-making wastewater when the operating parameters are correctly controlled. .Keywords- MBR, pulp-making wastewater, sludge characteristics
