Abstract

1. Among the ether-soluble products of the decomposition of lignin (preparation LMR) and of the sawdust from the wood of Siberian larch with metallic sodium in liquid ammonia were identified: dihydroeugenol, 1-guaniacyl-1-propanol and 1-guaiacyl-3-propanol; in addition, 1-(p-hydroxyphenyl)-1-propanol was detected, which is not found among the decomposition products of spruce lignin. 2. The yields of the decomposition products of larch lignin are approximately 2.5 times smaller than the yields of the analogous products, obtained by the treatment of spruce lignin, which can indicate that larch lignin is more highly condensed than spruce lignin.
