Abstract

1. Sodium dialkyl phosphites react normally with chloromethyl and bromomethyl methyl ethers with formation of methoxymethylphosphonic esters. 2. When products of reaction between bromomethyl methyl ether and sodium dialkyl phosphites are distilled without separation of the sodium bromide formed in the reaction, the sodium bromide enters the reaction and gives salts of acid esters of methoxymethylphosphonic acid. 3. With bromomethyl methyl ether, silver dialkyl phosphites give methoxymethylphosphonic esters, whereas with chloromethyl methyl ether mixed esters are apparently formed.
