Abstract

During the past five years, the American Chemical Society has launched a successful ACS Scholars Program for minority students, increased minority membership, established a highly respected Department of Minority Affairs, and provided support for a wide variety of minority activities. But greater accomplishments can be achieved in the future if ACS works more closely with existing science and engineering minority advocacy groups. This was the main take-home message at last month's meeting of the ACS Blue Ribbon Advisory Panel on Minority Affairs, a group established by Executive Director John K Crum in 1994 to review the society's programs, promote partnerships, and evaluate the progress being made by the society on minority issues.
