Abstract

The American Chemical Society has communicated to Congress and Administration its views on issues involving human exposure to air toxics and on U.S. patent system In a letter to members of Senate Committee on Environment & Public Works and House Committee on Energy & Commerce, who are currently involved in updating Clean Air Act, ACS said that the goal of air toxics legislation should be to achieve, in most cost-effective manner, an overall significant reduction in risk to human health and environment posed by hazardous air pollutants. ACS contends that current Congressional focus on imposing technology controls on emissions of air toxics prior to a complete risk assessment is related strongly to a lack of research support in this area.
