Abstract
Acromegaly: a Latin American perspective
Highlights
The care for patients with complex diseases such as acromegaly varies between different regions of the World due to specific local circumstances such as the availability of qualified specialists and economic resources to pay for costly pharmacological treatments and radiotherapeutical interventions. In recognition of these regional variations, the Acromegaly Consensus Group has included the participation of specialists from Brazil and Mexico
We find governmentbased subsidized health care co-existing with private medicine, and patients with acromegaly receive multimodal care at referral centers, just like in Europe and the United States
In most Latin American countries the cost of pharmacological treatment, somatostatin analogs is absorbed by the government
Summary
In recognition of these regional variations, the Acromegaly Consensus Group has included the participation of specialists from Brazil and Mexico.
