Abstract

IN THE comprehensive survey of allergy to drugs by Carr,1 reactions to mercurial compounds are only briefly mentioned. Recent reports2 have indicated a relation between the clinical syndrome of acrodynia and exposure to mercury or its compounds. Sources of mercury have included teething powders, mercurial ointments applied externally, mercury bichloride diaper rinses and calomel compounds used in the treatment of intestinal parasites. Recently, Bancroft, Grant and Tanner3 reported the occurrence of acrodynia following the ingestion of ammoniated mercury ointment.
