Abstract

The chitinozoans and a few acritarchs from the upper Fezouata Formation and from the lower part of the Tachilla Formation are described. Comparisons with contemporaneous assemblages from other regions demonstrate affinities with lower Ordovician palaeoplankton of the Sahara, France, Portugal and Bohemia. The stratigraphical ages suggested by the chitinozoan and acritarch assemblages are usually in good agreement with those provided by the macrofauna. However, the lower part of the Tachilla Formation is assigned to the upper Arenigian based on chitinozoan evidence.
