Abstract
Summary The Acrasida, a taxonomically isolated group of mycetozoans, and the Schizopyrenida (Vahlkampfiidae), an order of amoebae, show certain characters suggestive of a relationship. Acrasis rosea , the best-known acrasid, has a locomotive pattern identical with that of the vahlkampfiids but a mitotic pattern different from that of vahlkampfiids. Evidence reviewed from the literature also fails to confirm a relationship between Acrasis and vahlkampfiids. However, the hypothesis merits further investigation, and lines of inquiry are suggested.
