Abstract

The authors describe a video-tape-based system designed to record, store, display and process two-dimensional optical signals from transient events. This system is used to record the output of an ultra-fast streak camera and to convert a fast oscilloscope into a storage and/or digitising scope. Features of the system are real-time playback and analysis capability, wide dynamic range in recording intensity variations within two-dimensional patterns, easy interfacing and relatively low cost.
