Abstract

We reported the acoustooptic (A-O) properties of a tetragonal 0.62Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3–0.38PbTiO3 single crystal at a wavelength of 632.8 nm. Under a constant displacement condition, the measured A-O coefficient π31D was -6.05×10-12 m2/N. Consideration of the piezoelectric and electrooptic (E-O) effect allowed the calculation of the A-O coefficient π31E as -7.23×10-12 m2/N under a constant electric field condition. Simultaneous combination of the A-O and E-O effects will allow production of the multifunctional A-E-O device.
