Abstract

The acousto-optical response of a microtoroidal optomechanical microresonator with optically compensated damping factor is measured and analyzed. We demonstrate that the large optical quality factor combined with the enhanced acoustic response due to radiation pressure make optomechanical microresonators excellent candidates as sensitive acousto-optical transducers with extremely low power consumption.
