Abstract

The problem of the Bragg diffraction of light in a Fabry–Perot resonator formed by two periodical ‘mirrors’ is considered. A significant increase in the spectral resolution of the filter due to the spatial variation of the refractive index of the medium is shown. Complete elimination of sidelobes and a significant suppression of the ‘tails’ of a diffraction reflection curve are achieved for the specific functions of spatial apodization. The effects of light absorption and moving gratings on the spectral resolution are also examined.
