Abstract
The late Georg Bolin, a recognised Swedish guitar maker, developed two types of sound enhancement systems, ‘tone tables’, which are used for reinforcing the sound from certain musical instruments, and ‘acoustic walls’, which are used for increasing the reverberation time so as to improve room acoustics for musical performance. The properties of the acoustic walls are studied in the present investigation. The results show that the acoustic walls possess complex sound radiation characteristics. A higher density of modes would probably improve the performance of the system.
