Abstract

The impulse response approach to evaluate time dependent pressures resulting from the specified velocity of a baffled piston is used to investigate the time dependent far field pressures radiated from a circular piston. The far field pressures are expressed as the convolution of the velocity of the piston with a far field impulse response. A simple closed form expression for the far field impulse response of a circular piston is developed from the general expression for the impulse response of a piston of any shape. The far field impulse response is then used to develop closed form expressions for the time dependent far field pressures resulting from a square pulse, an N-wave and a pulsed sinusoidal velocity of the piston. Due to reciprocity considerations, the expressions and results are also applicable to the analogous reception problem.
