Abstract

Acoustic waves propagating on the (100) and (110) surfaces of piezoelectric cubic crystals have been studied by using the surface Green function matching method. On the (100) surface no Bleustein-Gulyaev wave can propagate along the [100] and [110] symmetry directions. For arbitrary propagation direction slight variations in the velocity of the elastic surface waves are found for Zns, ZnSe, ZnTe and GaAs, as compared with calculations neglecting the piezoelectric coupling. On the [110] surface the Bleustein-Gulyaev wave can propagate along the 1 10 symmetry direction and a piezoelectric Rayleigh wave along the 00 1 direction, whereas for arbitrary propagation direction two general acoustic waves with different velocities exist. Results for GaAs are presented.
