Abstract
The conventional beamforming technique (delay, sum and square) for source bearing is based on the plane wave field. In this paper, horizontal array beamforming in shallow water water waveguide is analyzed based on normal mode field model. Theoretical results illustrate that the conventional beamforming performance is degraded at the end-fire direction and degradation depends on bottom reflectivity. Furthermore, theory also shows that the performance is range dependent. The Prony method processing the horizontal array data for source bearing in shallow water waveguide is proposed to overcom this problem.
