Abstract

Acoustic radiation from bending waves of a plate is reexamined by considering radiation loading of a plate driven by a traveling harmonic force. The results show that the plate displacement vanishes at the coincidence frequency and the coincidence frequency depends on the phase velocity of the forcing function with respect to the speed of sound in the fluid. Viscothermal losses in the boundary layer are also considered in the derivations to examine the effects of these losses on the radiated sound pressure and conversion of mechanical energy into heat below the coincidence frequency.
