Abstract

This review focuses on attempts to establish quantitative relationships for construction of a theory of acoustic emission in plastic deformation. The authors also discuss acoustic emission in deformation of production steels and the role of plastic deformation at the crack tip. The parameters most frequently determined in experimental investigation of acoustic emission are presented. The influence of the grain size of a polycrystalline material is investigated and acoustic emission in creep of polycrystalline A1, Cd, and Pb at room temperature is discussed.
