Abstract

The nonequilibrium properties of integer channels that affect the magnetoplasma dynamics of degenerate, regularly inhomogeneous 2D electron systems under integral quantum Hall conditions are discussed. It is shown that the presence of an integer strip near the perimeter of a 2D electron system with a “soft” electron density profile should quench some of the acoustic modes in the edge magnetoplasmon spectrum of the electron disk in a magnetic field normal to its surface. This effect is observed experimentally and could be used for diagnostics of the properties of integer channels in variable electric fields.
