Abstract

The diffraction of a line source of sound by an absorbing finite strip in the presence of a fluid flow is investigated. The problem is solved by a method due to Jones [Q. J. Math. 3, 189–196 (1952)] based on the Wiener–Hopf technique [B. Noble, The Wiener–Hopf Technique (Pergamon, London, 1958)]. The diffracted field is shown to be the sum of a field produced by the two edges of the strip and a field due to the interaction of the two edges. The farfield is then calculated using asymptotic approximations.
