Abstract

The major idea of this project is to solve the problems related to cost and communications of unmanned underwater vehicles (UUV’s) by using Acoustic communication. The process of transmitting and receiving signals underwater using sound waves is known as underwater acoustic communication. In acoustic communication, sound waves are used to transmit and receive messages. In this article, the control signals generated based on user input is transmitted using sound waves underwater. This is achieved by using a speaker that is connected to the transmitter circuit. This transmitter circuit converts the electrical control signals into its analogous sound signals for underwater transmission. The receiver on the other hand is connected with a piezo electric disc mic which helps in sensing the sound signals underwater and converting them into electrical signals which can be further analyzed by the receiver circuit to decode the information present in the signal received by the piezo electric disc microphone(mic). Based on the information obtained from decoding, the necessary control signals are sent to a motor driver circuit in order to control the movement of a drone. It has been observed that the sensitivity of the mic decreases with increase in the number of rubber coatings. The range of the system also increases with increase in power supplied to the transmitter.
