Abstract

The densities (ρ) and speeds of sound (u) of betaine hydrochloride (B.HCl) drug (0.01 to 0.06)mol·kg−1 in (0.10, 0.20 and 0.30)mol·kg−1 aqueous d(+)-glucose and sucrose solutions are reported as a function of temperature at T=(293.15 to 313.15)K and atmospheric pressure. The values of density (ρ) and speed of sound (u) are obtained with high precision. These values have been used to estimate the apparent molar volume (V2,ϕ), partial molar volume (V2∞), transfer partial molar volume (ΔtV2∞), apparent molar isentropic compressibility (Ks,2,ϕ), partial molar isentropic compressibility (Ks,2∞), transfer partial molar compressibility (ΔtKs,2∞), hydration number (NH), partial molar expansion (E2∞) and Hepler’s constant (∂2V2∞/∂T2)P. Furthermore, pair (VAB and KAB) and triplet (VABB and KABB) interaction coefficients have been computed from the values of ΔtV2∞ and ΔtKs,2∞. The co-sphere overlap model is used to understand the values of ΔtV2∞ and ΔtKs,2∞. The positive values of (∂2V2∞/∂T2)P indicate structure making ability of betaine hydrochloride in aqueous d(+)-glucose and sucrose solutions at the temperatures and compositions investigated.
