Abstract

Background: Medical students in Bergen receive an advanced cardiac life support course during their 3rd year. Previous studies have indicated that 12 months after the course 75% of the students are considered incompetent. We studied the effect of a simple repetition course on retention of ACLS skills. Methods: Two groups (n=36+39) were compared 13 months after attending a 10h advanced life support course. The control group received no follow-up during the period. The test group underwent one practical assessment within 6 weeks after initial course, and then two simple training sessions with 3–4 months interval (4h).
