Abstract

The acid resistance of fracturing proppant can be effectively improved by reducing SiO2. An acid-resistant silicon-free ceramic proppant was created in an Al2O3–BaO–CaO–MgO (ABCM) system to increase the proppant's acid resistance. The effects of corrosion on the properties and microstructure of the proppant were investigated using a 12wt% HCl+3wt% HF acid mixture. The morphology, structure, and phase analysis of several samples were investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray powder diffraction (XRD). The results show that this silicon-free ceramic proppant has good acid resistance in an ABCM system. The corrosion resistance mechanism of this ceramic material is also discussed.
