In 2010, a group of surgeons, audiologists, speechlanguage pathologists, and representatives of cochlear implant manufacturers in the USA met to discuss the initiation of an organization that would address the many issues cited above
It is committed to eliminating barriers to cochlear implantation by sponsoring research, driving heightened awareness, and advocating for improved access to cochlear implants for patients of all ages across the USA

There are numerous professionals who play instrumental roles in the care of cochlear implant recipients, including surgeons, audiologists, speech-language pathologists, and educators. Cochlear implant manufacturers assist patients and their families with technological support for external equipment, user networks, and by providing on-line rehabilitation and training tools.
