Abstract

Abstract : The National Capital Region (NCR) Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) Health Systems Advisory Subcommittee (HSAS) of the Defense Health Board (DHB) was convened in May 2008 to advise the Department of Defense (DoD) on the planned integration of military medical facilities in the NCR service area. In response to the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2009 (NDAA 2009, Public Law 110-417; Appendix A), in September 2008, the NCR BRAC HSAS was further charged to review the design and construction plans for the new Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC) and the new Fort Belvoir Community Hospital (FBCH) to determine if they were being designed and constructed to be world-class medical facilities and, if not, what should be done to remedy any perceived deficiencies. This report responds to this latter charge.
