Abstract

Now days, many international organizations are working to achieve the gender equality among society. However, for all the progress that has been made, the elimination of discrimination against women has not been achieved. This article discuss about the indicators in measuring gender equality which are employment, cell phone use, financial inclusion, parliamentary representation, son bias, discriminatory norms, intimate partner violence, community safety and organized violence. Another important discussion is men’s participation and the awareness of society about gender equality as a huge challenge to achieve gender equality, where gender equality has persistently been seen as a ‘women’s issue. This article also argues about cultures and gender equality. In some countries (Egypt and India for example) the cultures shaped the society and the laws based on culture are stronger than the government policies. The last one the relation between family, education, and gender equality.
