Abstract

Abstract The expansion of company operational activities has produced a large increase in waste generation. All of this waste must be handled responsibly, and can be a considerable resource if managed effectively. PT Medco E&P – Rimau Asset has therefore been applying integrated waste management to manage its organic and inorganic waste. This program will improve the Company's ability to manage the environment, minimize environmental pollution, and utilize organic and inorganic waste as a resource. Company management has a strong commitment to improving environmental management by emphasizing cleaner production through a "reuse, reduce and recycle" strategy for resources and waste. Organic waste-paper management has been applied through reusing paper or using both sides of paper, and using an online system as the standard means of communication or messaging among sections and departments, therefore, minimalizing the use of organic paper. Waste recycling has also been applied to produce compost from organic waste. Furthermore, the compost has been used to replace chemical fertilizer for re-vegetation activities. Meanwhile, organic waste-paper is being treated for recycling organic waste-paper and converted into calendars, business cards, portfolio and envelopes. These integrated waste management activities support PT Medco E&P Indonesia – Rimau Asset in solving the problem of organic and inorganic waste management and in addition have resulted in PT Medco E&P Indonesia – Rimau Asset being awarded the Gold Rating from the Ministry of Environment, Republic of Indonesia in 2011. PT Medco E&P Indonesia – Rimau Asset, was therefore the first E&P Company in Indonesia to be awarded the highest rating in environment management in Indonesia, a major achievement for the Company.
