Abstract
(−)-α-Acetylmethadol (LAAM) is an opioid with a duration of action up to 72 h. It appeared to relieve pain and eliminate abuse of opioids in three of four patients who had chronic pain secondary to permanent, anatomical alterations. LAAM may be very helpful in the treatment of many chronic pain patients.
