Abstract

1. Some secondary and tertiary acetylenic alcohols were cyancethylated in presence of caustic potash, ???d the corresponding 2-cyaroethyl ethers were obtained in good yield. In the case of ethynyldifsopropylmethanol ??? greater part of the original alcohol was recovered unchanged. 2. Of the two isomers of 4-ethynyl-1,2,5-trimethylpiperidinol (VN), only the low-melting isomer reacts ???th acrylonia??? and gives the corresponding 2-cyanoethyl ether (VIII). The high-melting isomer of this piperidonol does not react with acrylonitrile under the usual conditions. 3. The acetylenic glycol (IX) reacts with acrylocitrile with formation of mono- and bis-2-cyanoethyl ethers, and the first acrylonitrile molecule reacts at the primary hydroxyl groups.
