Abstract
Since 1931, administration of acetarsone by mouth has been the principal method of treatment in cases of congenital syphilis observed in the Sigma Clinic of the Children's Hospital. At the time of this report 196 patients have received this drug, and for 187 of these we believe that the diagnosis of syphilis was correct. We have followed the 187 cases for periods varying from two months to six and one-half years. The present study is a review of these cases, particularly in regard to the incidence of reactions to treatment, the effect of treatment on the Wassermann and the Kahn reaction of the blood, the incidence of clinical and serologic relapse in cases followed for a year or more and the incidence of neurosyphilis.
