Abstract

Objective To evaluate the clinical use and effect of acellular dermal matrix (ADM) in the repair of the defect of oral mucosa after operation of oral lichen planus ( OLP). Methods Ninety cases of OLP were treated surgically and the mucosa defect was repaired by ADM allograft immediately. All patients were followed up at mean 30 months (20-36 months) , and clinical examination was conducted to follow up the healing of the ADM graft. Results Two patients were lost follow-up. Nine were well repaired by ADM. Five patients were improved, and the new OLP was found outside the graft region. Three patients were failed, and the new OLP was found inside the graft region. The total success rate was 73. 7%. Conclusion Surgical repair of OLP cases with ADM allograft gave satisfactory results although being a relatively new method of treatment. The result indicated that the occurence of OLP may be come from the change of oral mucosa itself. Key words: Acellular dermis; Transplantation; Mouth mucosa; Oral lichen planus
